Oak is a genus of tree found throughout England. Its wood is excellent for the production of wands; for example, Rubeus Hagrid's wand was made of oak wood and was rather bendy[1].

In June of 1992, Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Neville Longbottom and Draco Malfoy had to serve detention with Hagrid after being caught wandering the corridors[2]. When Hagrid heard an odd noise (caused by Professor Quirrell's cloak dragging along the ground) he dragged Harry and Hermione behind a towering oak tree[2].

It was through the tangled branches of an ancient oak that Harry saw the mangled and bloodied body of a unicorn, whose blood was being drunk by Professor Quirrell under the command of Lord Voldemort[2]. Ronan, Bane and Firenze later met under this same oak tree where they argued about the decency of Firenze letting Harry ride on his back to escape Voldemort[2].
