Algie Longbottom was a wizard and the great-uncle of Neville Longbottom[1].
Sometime between 1980 and 1988, Algie took his great-nephew Neville to Blackpool for a holiday, but pushed Neville off the pier in an attempt to force him to show some signs of magic[1]. This was part of a series of ongoing attempts to catch him off guard and force some magic out of him[1].
In 1988, Algie and his wife Enid were invited to the Longbottom residence for tea; somehow, Algie ended up dangling Neville by the ankles from the upstairs window, and when Enid offered him a meringue he let go[1]. The family was shocked and horrified until they realised that Neville had bounced safely down to the road[1].
Algie, Enid and Augusta were all extremely pleased when Neville was accepted into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, so much so that the latter wept openly with joy[1]. Algie bought Neville a toad, which was named Trevor, for the start of the new school year[1].
In the summer of 1995, Algie took a trip to Assyria, where he found a rare and magical Mimbulus mimbletonia, which he brought back as another present for Neville, knowing the latter's love for Herbology[2]
